The P16Plus Council of Greater Bexar County and its partners will close gaps in students’ dual credit preparation and participation in San Antonio with a $731,000 grant from Greater Texas Foundation.
Across San Antonio, high school students who earn dual credit are more likely to enroll in college and complete a credential on time. Unfortunately, in low-income and predominantly Hispanic schools, students are less likely to pursue dual credit and to experience a math, reading, and writing curriculum that prepares them to enroll in dual credit coursework in high school. In collaboration with the Region 20 Education Service Center and the Student Futures Network, the Council will work with six school districts in the San Antonio region. Each district will receive a data profile of their current dual credit participation levels and corresponding outcomes, then identify high-need campuses to participate in curriculum alignment to ensure students are well-prepared for college-level coursework, along with a communications campaign to encourage more students to pursue dual credit. The project is expected to increase the number of students who earn dual credit, graduate college-ready, enroll in higher education, and complete postsecondary credentials.
