Grant Announcement: 15 to Finish Programs

A first-of-its-kind study will evaluate the impact of Houston Community College’s new 15 to Finish initiative on degree attainment with a $316,404 grant from Greater Texas Foundation to the University of Houston. The college’s initiative will use targeted promotional materials embedded in student orientations and advising sessions, along with various incentives, to encourage students to enroll in 15 credits each semester rather than the standard 12 credits. The evaluation will: 1) assess the extent to which the program achieves its desired outcomes; 2) identify which students choose to participate in 15 to Finish and why; 3) explore the extent to which students with different educational profiles benefit from the initiative; and 4) contribute to the knowledge base about 15 to Finish implementation at colleges that predominately serve low-income and non-traditional students.
