The seventh annual GTF Scholars Leadership Conference brought together early college high school graduates from across the state to develop friendships, step outside their comfort zones, and prepare for leadership in college and beyond. The event, held in Bryan, TX on March 1-2, included students from all nine GTF Scholars institutions: Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University San Antonio, The University of Texas at El Paso, The University of Texas Permian Basin, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, The University of Texas at Tyler, University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, and University of North Texas.
The event began Friday with an afternoon of team-building at Texas A&M’s ChallengeWorks ropes course. That evening, students enjoyed practicing business dining etiquette during a dinner facilitated by Ms. Kelli Hollinger. Susan Dawson, executive director of E3 Alliance, delivered an interactive keynote session exploring six qualities of effective leadership. The group spent Saturday morning discussing mindsets, problem-solving, and other topics with Dr. Richard Cummins of Tarleton State University. Although the weekend featured a range of different activities, each session encouraged students to take risks and practice new skills that will serve them well throughout their professional and personal lives.
