We believe GTF has a responsibility to address statewide educational issues that are critical to the future of Texas. Within the foundation’s overall focus on increasing college readiness, access, persistence, and success, we have chosen a specific set of issues that represent particular needs or particular opportunities for Texas at this time. These are certainly not the only issues that matter for Texas, but they are issues for which GTF has expertise and the ability to play multiple roles as a funder, a convener, a policy advocate, and more.
Currently, the foundation is focused on supporting solutions in the following four areas:
- High school to postsecondary transitions, including dual credit and early college high schools
- Rigor and alignment in math
- Transfer pathways, policies, agreements among Texas postsecondary institutions
- Improving the success of rural students in attending and succeeding in postsecondary education
Over time, the foundation recognizes and anticipates that these priority issues will evolve as the postsecondary landscape in Texas changes. The foundation will also continue to address a broader array of postsecondary issues as part of its regional work.
