In both its regional and statewide work, the foundation recognizes that we are only one actor in the landscape and that our philanthropic dollars are limited. For this reason, the foundation seeks to play a number of roles that leverage our own resources as well as the strengths of our cross-sector partners.
For example, the foundation is committed to its underlying roles of distributing grants, conducting research, and building the capacity of effective organizations. We also convene diverse groups of stakeholders, both formally and informally, to share ideas and promote collaboration. In our regional and issue-based activities the foundation frequently works as a partner, devising solutions alongside our grantees.
Finally, the foundation recognizes that intentional effort is needed to translate the good work of individual organizations and regions into more widespread change. For this reason, we actively communicate our knowledge and expertise externally and seek to influence local and state policies that support the ability of more students to succeed in postsecondary education.
