Grant Announcement: Advancing Equity and Student Success in Mathematics Education at the Junior-to-Junior Level

With a grant of $250,000 from Greater Texas Foundation, the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin will lead a coalition of practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and influencers to strengthen equity and opportunities for upward mobility through math education at the transition from high school to college.

The Dana Center Mathematics Pathways (DCMP) is the Center’s approach to ensuring that all students have equitable access to and the opportunity for success in rigorous math pathways aligned with and relevant to their future aspirations, propelling them to upward economic and social mobility. It replaces the single pathway through College Algebra with multiple pathways through statistics, quantitative reasoning, and mathematical modeling and analysis. Practitioners and policymakers are implementing math pathways in a rapidly growing number of states, systems, regions, and institutions. To ensure these reforms achieve maximum impact for students, the Dana Center will conduct a landscape analysis to gauge the impact of math pathways on equity and student success, then convene stakeholders to develop recommendations based on the results of the analysis. From there, the Dana Center will develop resources to equip educators and decision-makers to further advance student success and equity in math education at the junior-to-junior level.
