Houston GPS Institutions will build competency to effectively serve students of all backgrounds with a $300,000 grant to University of Houston from Greater Texas Foundation. Houston GPS is an existing collaborative of 13 postsecondary institutions in the Texas Gulf Coast-Houston metro region focused on completely closing equity gaps in the postsecondary participation, success, and attainment of historically underrepresented students within the next 10 years. Through this project, also supported by Houston Endowment, Trellis Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, and The Powell Foundation, Houston GPS will partner with the University of Southern California’s (USC) Race and Equity Center to help participating institutions focus on the needs of students by race and ethnicity, Pell eligibility and economic disadvantage, sex, first-generation status, and the intersectionality of issues experienced by students in these populations.
