50 graduating high school students from low-income communities in Houston will obtain industry-recognized credentials this summer in a new pilot program from BridgeYear. With $189,198 from Greater Texas Foundation, BridgeYear will establish the Summer Certification Cohort pilot project to connect recent high school graduates to untapped industry-recognized certification opportunities so they can earn a postsecondary credential and begin careers in high-growth, high-demand industries. Following the pilot project, BridgeYear will develop a playbook so other districts and workforce training partners will be able to model and replicate their programs to reach students often overlooked in postsecondary education.
