Issue Brief: Supporting Students and Schools in Times of Disaster

Catastrophic events can leave grantmaking organizations looking for mission-aligned ways to support impacted communities. Hurricane Harvey was one such event, disrupting the lives and learning of thousands of students when it tore through Texas in August 2017. Government agencies, nonprofits, funders, and citizens acted quickly to meet the immediate needs of the region, but long-term recovery will require sustained focus and resources.
